東北大学名誉教授・田中英道氏が解説 – 仏教伝来の舞台裏
歴史はクロニカル(時系列)でありあせん。「何年何月に何が起きたか」だけではありません。歴史家には、日本の長い歴史の中で何が重要で、何が現在まで続いているのか、その背景に何が起きたのかを深く洞察し、現代人に知恵や感性、重要性、優先度、役立つ知識を提供できる能力、重要性を判断する能力が求められます。
Professor Emeritus of Tohoku University, Hidemichi Tanaka, explains – Behind the scenes of the spread of Buddhism – History is not chronological, such as “what happened in what month and year.” Historians are required to have deep insight into what is important and what happened in the background, and the ability to judge importance so that they can provide useful knowledge to modern people, such as wisdom, sensitivity, importance and priority, in order to make judgments.

歴史は、クロニカルな、何年何月に、なにがありました。あれがありました。
ではありません。何が重要か、どういうことが起こったのか、
ということを現代人が使えるように、
歴史家には考察や重要度の選択が必要なのです。
これまでの長い日本の歴史で
何が重要なのか何が現在まで続いているのか
ということを知ることが歴史と向き合う上で大事であるわけです。
秦河勝は、自分たちのネストリウス派のキリスト教を入れないで仏教を入れたということは
まさに秦河勝がユダヤ人ではなく中国人でもなくて朝鮮人でもなくて
日本人だということをよく示したのです。
日本人というのは、全てアフリカから来た人ですから
純粋な日本人というのはあり得ないのです。
純粋な日本人というのは、日本の文化や風土にきちんと帰化し、
そして基本的に神道を自然道として受け入れざるを得なかった人、
「人間というのは自然の一部である」ということを受け入れる、
そういう人が日本人なんです。
やはり自然を疑わない。
自然というものは素晴らしいものだ。
そういうことを知っている人なんです。
けれども、今のチャイナ氾濫してたり、
砂漠地帯は本当に乾燥しています。
そういう困難、ヨーロッパのように寒い、
そういう国の人達は、みんなやはり自然を憎みます。
自然と違う自分というのを大事にしようとします。
そうすると、当然自然に帰依するよりも
別の神のような存在を信じるようになるわけです。
日本だけはそうではないですね。
日本人だけは僥倖である。
つまり幸福な国民であるということがわかると思います。
いろいろと秦河勝まで述べてきましけれど、
そういう選択をした人であるということです。
やはり、この秦河勝がそういう選択をしたことによって
日本が非常に平和な国になっていきます。
そして、この秦氏が大陸のいろいろな経験を
日本の中に生かしていくということ
これをやったために日本人が
縄文時代からくる平和な、自然な、
ある意味で閉じこもった文化から
やはり常に外を向いた、あるいは日本を客観化できる、
そういう精神を持つ事ができたと思います。
それ以外も、これ以後少し聖徳太子の話もしなければいけないし、
これから彼らが書いた日本の神話を
もう一度お話ししたいと思います。

History is not a chronological thing, like, what happened in what year and month. That happened.
Historians need to consider and select the importance of what is important and what happened so that people today can use it.
It is important to know what is important in Japan’s long history and what has continued to the present when facing history.
The fact that Hata Kawakatsu did not include their Nestorian Christianity but instead included Buddhism shows that he is not Jewish, Chinese, or Korean, but Japanese.
All Japanese people come from Africa, so there is no such thing as a pure Japanese.
A pure Japanese is someone who has properly naturalized into Japanese culture and climate,
and who has had to basically accept Shinto as the way of nature,
and who accepts that “humans are part of nature.”
After all, they do not doubt nature.
Nature is a wonderful thing.
They are people who know that.
However, today China is flooded,
and the desert regions are really dry.
People in countries with such difficulties and cold climates like Europe tend to hate nature.
They try to value their own differences from nature.
As a result, rather than worshipping nature, they naturally come to believe in a god-like existence.
Japan is not like that.
The Japanese are the only ones who were fortunate.
In other words, you can see that they are a fortunate people.
I’ve said a lot about Hata no Kawakatsu,
but he was a man who made that choice.
And it was because Hata no Kawakatsu made that choice
that Japan became a very peaceful country.
And the Hata clan made use of the various experiences of the continent
in Japan.
I think that because they did this, the Japanese were able to move away from the peaceful, natural, and in a sense closed-off culture that came from the Jomon period
and instead have a spirit that always looks outward, or is able to objectify Japan.
Other than that, I’ll also have to talk a little bit about Prince Shotoku later,
and I’d like to talk about the Japanese myths they wrote again.
