※旧皇族の竹田家（旧：竹田宮家）出身。竹田宮恒久王と昌子内親王の曾孫であり、男系では北朝第3代崇光天皇の19世、竹田宮恒徳王3世。女系では明治天皇の玄孫で、今上天皇（徳仁）の三従兄弟にあたる。東京都港区にて出生。日本オリンピック委員会 (JOC) 前会長の竹田恆和の子。松濤幼稚園、慶應義塾幼稚舎、慶應義塾普通部、慶應義塾高校（英語会に所属）を経て、慶應義塾大学法学部法律学科で環境学を専攻して卒業する。
※Tsuneyasu Takeda:He is from the Takeda family (formerly the Takedamiya family), a former imperial family. He is the great-grandson of Prince Tsunehisa Takeda and Princess Masako, and the 19th son of Emperor Sukō, the third emperor of the Northern Court, and Prince Tsunetoku Takeda, the third son of Emperor Takeda. In the female line, he is the great-great-grandson of Emperor Meiji and third cousin of the current Emperor (Naruhito).
Born in Minato Ward, Tokyo. Son of Tsunekazu Takeda, former president of the Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC).
After attending Shoto Kindergarten, Keio Gijuku Kindergarten, Keio Gijuku Junior High School, and Keio Gijuku High School (belonging to the English Club), he graduated from the Faculty of Law, Department of Law, Keio University, majoring in Environmental Studies.
